Dr. Damien Harkin
BSc (Adelaide), BSc Hons (Pathology, Adelaide), PhD (Pathology, Adelaide)

Dr. Harkin is the Senior Lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology in the School of Life Sciences at the Queensland Institute of Technology. He is an experienced cell biologist with expertise across a number of fields including inflammation and tissue repair, embryonic development, confocal imaging of tisse function and most recently corneal tissue grafts from adult stem cells.

Highlights from Dr. Harkin's career include a PhD in pathology from the University of Adelaide in 1994 and postdoctoral appointments at Harvard Medical School and Melbourne University.

Since returning to Australia, Dr. Harkin has developed a keen interest in the biology of corneal stem cells and in collaboration with local surgeons and the Prevent Blindness Foundation, has recently commenced clinical applications of this work. The goal of this research is to repair the ocular surface of patients suffering from severe corneal injuries.
