Dr Harkin is Professor in Anatomy and Physiology in the School of Life Sciences at the Queensland University of Technology. He is an experienced cell biologist with expertise across a number of fields including inflammation and tissue repair, embryonic development, confocal imaging of tissue function and most recently corneal tissue grafts from adult stem cells. Highlights from Dr Harkin’s career include a PhD in pathology from the University of Adelaide in 1994 and postdoctoral appointments at Harvard Medical School and Melbourne University.
Dr Harkin has developed a keen interest in the biology of corneal stem cells and in collaboration with local surgeons and the Queensland Eye Institute, has recently commenced clinical applications of this work. The goal of this research is to repair the ocular surface of the eye for patients suffering from severe corneal injuries.
