At the Queensland Eye Institute, we offer more than world-class specialists and technologies in the eye health field. We provide truly personalised treatment and the confidence that comes with knowing that here, you will receive the best possible care.
Research, education and clinical care is essential to our mission. Our doctors and scientists work side-by-side to discover the causes of eye disease and find new or improved treatments, earlier diagnosis and disease prevention. Bringing research and patient care together helps us turn possibilities into realities. Our research division is internationally renown for their work. The research laboratory is located on level 3 and is a purpose built for glaucoma, macular degeneration and gene therapy research.
The Queensland Eye Institute is the state's only independent academic research institute – a place where learning and innovation never stops. We educate medical students, registrars, fellows, practicing ophthalmologists, optometric physicians and other health care providers. Our education programs is among the most sought-after often host to students within Australia and around the globe.
Our 4000 square metre facility across five levels houses our day hospital with three operating theatres, a comprehensive vision diagnostic unit, clinical trials centre, teaching facility, research laboratory and state-of-the-art eye clinic.
As a not-for-profit charity we rely on the generosity of donations from everyday individuals, businesses and community groups to fund critical research programs, equipment and facilities that will help us provide our services to the community. We would not be where we are today without the generous support of the Sylvia and Charles Viertel Charitable Foundation. The Foundations' passion and focus have enabled us to develop a robust and sustainable not-for-profit with the development of the South Bank Day Hospital.
