Laura Sinfield

PhD Student Laura is a PhD Student at QEI and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) under Dr Damien Harkin and Prof Traian Chirila. She holds a Bachelor of Science in biomedical science from the University of the Sunshine Coast (QLD) and a Bachelor of Applied Science Hons for QUT. Previous research Ms Sinfield has done includes developing therapies for patients with graft-versus-host disease, a complication of transplantation in leukaemia patients. Ms Sinfield’s PhD project is focused on patients with diseases of the cornea, specifically injuries to and diseases of the limbus, which is the border between the cornea and the sclera of the eye. Her project is about developing a 3-D scaffold of silk and using it as a vehicle for corneal cells to be transplanted into the eye.
