Dr Karina George

BAppSc Hons (Chemistry, QUT), PhD (QUT)

Visiting Scientist

Dr Karina George is a Research Associate at the School of Life Sciences, QUT and Visiting Scientist at the Queensland Eye Institute.  Her research interests encompass the synthesis of degradable polymeric materials and understanding the structure-property-performance relationships that exist in these materials.

Dr George has a background in polymer science that began at her Honours project on phosphate-containing hydrogels for which she was awarded the ‘Cooperative Research Centre for Polymers (CRC-P) Prize’.  After completing her PhD on degradable polymeric networks, she undertook a postdoctoral position with the CRC-P where she studied the controlled degradation of polyolefin-based films.

Since April 2009, Dr George has been working with Dr Harkin and Professor Chirila at QEI on the development of silk-based scaffolds for ocular tissue repair.
